Quinoa salad with rocket, roasted pumpkin, apples, and fried chickpeas

Quinoa with Roasted Pumpkin

It’s the holiday season, so here’s an obligatory pumpkin recipe! Don’t skimp on the fry time for the chickpeas- you want them as crispy as possible.

Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana

Blistered Crust

Dear Bay Area,

You must have known by now that Pancake Moustache is in San Francisco, CA. Gotta say, amazing food out here- great produce, tacos, and coffee. Compared to the east coast, there must be 200x the number of asian people, and subsequently, some of the best Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Korean fare in the country. You do all of that so well, but Bay Area, why is your pizza so lackluster? Take a look at some of these pictures from Manchester, CT. Please make something comparable, and I will owe you a coke.

Sincerely,
Pancake Moustache

Cupcake by Pancake Moustache

Just spent a week on the east coast while visiting my mom for her birthday (Happy Birthday Mom!). She lives a few miles from small bakery that specializes in cupcakes. Now, you can shit on the whole cupcake fad if you’d like. You’ve probably got a point. Does the world really need a mint-mojito dessert that’s been primed to look like a cat? Probably not. But as a full-grown male with complete heterosexual tendencies, I’ve got to admit, I love them.

Pulled Lamb Sandwiches with Roasted Garlic Tzatziki

Pulled Lamb Sandwiches with Roasted Garlic Tzatziki

Lamb = ballsy food. If you cooked a few shanks in turpentine they’d probably still come out tasting like Bambi. Here lamb stands up to a handful of garlic cloves, strong grain mustard, and some bitter radicchio. You could eat this as a stew, or serve the shanks whole with some root vegetables, rice, spaetzle, or something. But in this case, the meat is preemptively tossed in a sandwich with a creamy sauce.

Berry Cobbler with Nacho Streusel and Lime Ice Cream

Nachos/Berries

It’s stoner fare- crushed up corn chips with some sweet, colored slop. Give it a chance, though. Streusel topping is a good catch all if you don’t go too crazy. Get the right level of sweetness/saltiness, a good amount of texture, and some interesting flavors, and pretty much anything will fly.
